A US Model 1842 single shot percussion pistol, the standard smoothbore single shot pistol of the US Army from 1842 until 1860. This one is clearly marked US H. Aston on the lock plate and MIDDTN, CONN over the date 1848 on the tail of the lock. The stock has no visible cartouches, and the letters GW are stamped on the left hand side of the breech.
Size: 14 1/2 inches long overall, with an 8 3/8 inch barrel.

Condition
The stock has probably been sanded, but looks excellent. There are patches of pitting on the lock plate, and the barrel is dark. The hammer screw is missing, and the spur on the hammer has been incorrectly replaced. The brass of the mounts is very good.
