Bronze medal suspended from a red ribbon with two black stripes, fitted with a brooch pinback. The obverse shows a mounted Native American warrior with spear, surrounded by a laurel wreath and the inscription “INDIAN WARS.†The reverse bears an American eagle perched on crossed rifles and a saber, with the legend “UNITED STATES ARMY FOR SERVICE†and encircled by 13 stars. This medal was authorized in 1907 to recognize U.S. Army soldiers who participated in campaigns against Native American tribes from 1865 to 1891.
