Outstanding U.S. Model 1860 cavalry saber dated 1864, by Ames Manufacturing Co. of Chicopee, Massachusetts. The sword is in excellent condition, with the blade retaining its original polish, and with sharp and clear markings on the ricasso: U.S. G.W.C. 1864, with the Ames scroll stamped on the other side. The grip retains almost all of its original leather and its wire wrap. The guard is in great shape, but retains a partial coat of black paint, as was given to many swords during the Indian Wars and later. The scabbard has also been painted black, and is free of dents. The inspector's stamp GWC is faintly visible on the drag. Size: The sword itself is 41 inches long with a 35 inch blade. Length in the scabbard is 43 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition

The sword has a beautiful blade in full original polish. The exterior retains much of a coat of black paint undoubtedly applied by the military. The grip leather is mostly intact, but the finish is spotty. The scabbard is un-dented, but has a light coat of rust on it.
