Russian Soviet era Dragoon Officer's saber in scabbard with sword knot. A heavy saber with a decorated "D" guard, black wooden grip and plain, multi-fullered blade. It is in a black leather covered wooden scabbard with simple brass mounts. The top mount has a Soviet mark etched onto it. The blade is unmarked, other than a small and somewhat sloppy mark on the blade that may be a Zlatoust Factory mark. There are no other marks visible. The scabbard is meant to hang backwards in relation to Western styles, which might facilitate faster draw. The sword knot is rather thin, plain black leather, and may be a replacement. This is the pattern of 1909, with Soviet markings. It is somewhat less usual, and differs in a number of ways from the more frequently seen pattern: The grip is black wood; the pommel is plain except for the Soviet star on the front; the blade has three narrow fullers; the decoration on the knuckle bow is different, and features a star at the center. These differences are positive, since the other style is commonly coped and is available as a reproduction manufactured in China and India. This pattern has apparently NOT been copied. Size: The sword is 38 3/4 inches long overall, with a 33 inch blade. The sword in its scabbard is 40 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition

The sword is in about excellent condition, although it is fairly crudely made. There is a small chip out of the wooden grip. The blade is about excellent, but poorly balanced. The leather on the scabbard is thin, and may be replaced.
