A very fine 1873 Trapdoor Springfield manufactured during its first year of production, with 1884 barrel. The breech is marked Model 1873 with the Eagle’s head over crossed arrows. The lockplate is marked U.S. Springfield 1873. The barrel has the eagle proof under VP and the patent date of 1884 and Buffington sights. There is a cartouche on the stock, but it is largely obscured by some minor handling and use marks. The number 38 is stamped into the comb of the stock.
The early date on the breech is extremely scarce, although the gun was modified with a new barrel and rear sight in 1884. The stock appears to be original to the date of the breech.
Size: 52 inches long overall with a 32 5/8 inch barrel.
Shipping: $85.00.
Condition
Condition: The gun is overall very good and better. The metal is about excellent, with the exception of the trigger guard, which has a small patch of pitting. The stock shows minor wear and use, with minor dents obscuring the cartouche on the side plate. The bore is very good with minor roughness. There are traces of case hardening visible on the tang.
