Hyde & Shattuck & Co. "American" Single Shot 12 Gauge Shotgun. manufactured in Hatfield, Massachusetts. This is a break-action shotgun with two triggers: one to fire it, and one to open the action. It was made about 1880 by the innovative firm of Hyde & Shattuck, later Shattuck Arms.
Size: 46 inches long overall, with a 30 inch barrel.

Condition
The gun is in fair condition. There is a large chip of wood missing from the stock at the wrist on the right, and a crack on the left. The trigger tang has a welded and riveted repair. The action has distinct movement in it when closed. The overall condition of the metal is fair, with light rusting and a number of marks on the metal. There are several marks on the top of the receiver, and the name "American" is partially obscured. The bore is very good. The action works well.
