An oval silvered, die-struck badge of hollow-back construction, featuring the German Stahlhelm (steel helmet), set above crossed swords and surrounded by a laurel wreath tied at the base. The reverse is fitted with a vertical pin-back, hinge, and catch, and bears the unusual stamp “X1111â€. The Silver Wound Badge was the intermediate grade of the series (between Black and Gold), awarded for three or four combat wounds, or for a single severe wound.
