Large and interesting German stein in speckled red ceramic, with a scene of a stag painted on the front. The decoration resembles majolica, but the stein appears to be Bavarian. The ceramic handle is topped with a simple pewter hinge with a finial close to the center of the pewter lid. The lid is plain other than in the center, where there is a representation of a coin with a portrait of the Elizabethan era Elector of Bavaria, possibly Maximilian. The stein is very plain, but quite handsome. It appears to be at least a liter. It is unmarked on the bottom. Size: 8 1/2 inches tall.
