A rare surviving example of early automotive-era Nevada ephemera, this 1913 fold-out Automobile Tourists’ Guide and Map of Nevada was issued as a promotional piece by the Arlington Hotel in Carson City. Compiled by J. W. Maxwell and printed locally by Newsprint, Carson City, the guide gives distances and elevations of major Nevada cities “by the various routes from Arlington Hotel,†and includes advertising for regional attractions like the Carson Hot Springs. The map, printed on the interior, shows principal roads and railways throughout Nevada on the cusp of the automobile age. These brochures were distributed free to hotel guests and motorists passing through Nevada’s capital.
