Obverse depicts the right-facing bust of Wilhelm I in uniform with Pickelhaube, surrounded by the inscription “WILHELM DER GROSSE DEUTSCHER KAISER KOENIG VON PREUSSEN” (Wilhelm the Great, German Emperor, King of Prussia). Reverse features floral sprays with the imperial crown above, surrounding the inscription “Zum Andenken an den hundertsten Geburtstag des Grossen Kaisers Wilhelm I 1797–22 Maerz–1897” (In remembrance of the 100th birthday of the Great Emperor Wilhelm I).
