Stated on page 20, “Flora Hill…Painted from memory by Thomas Sully.†On page 9, “Flora Hill, born February 7, 1842 at Baltimore, Maryland. She died August 13, 1847 at the age of five years, six months, and four days. There is a portrait of Flora Hill, which hung on the wall in the home of Emily, A. Spillman in Washington, D. C., Which the author has seen upon numerous occasions. It was the work of Thomas Sully, a popular portraitist of the times and friend of her mother, Anne. Sully painted it from memory and presented it to the mother after floor‘s death. It is a very beautiful, ethereal painting. Emily Spilman bequeathed the picture to her nephew, Hugh, M.
