A very handsome pitcher and bowl set by Mason's "Patent Ironstone China." It is decorated in a Chinese style, with pagodas, birds and flowers, a bridge and boats, in various colors over white with tan colored rims and an Asian style border. Both the pitcher and the bowl are multi-sided, with effectively 16 facets on the bowl, and 8 on the pitcher. Charles James Mason invented ironstone about 1811, although it was later copied by many makers. This pattern was a tribute to their company's origins importing porcelain from China, but is English made in Staffordshire. Size: Pitcher is 11 1/4 inches tall, and 11 inches wide at the handle. The bowl is 5 1/2 inches deep and 16 3/4 inches across at the rim. Excellent, with some bits of tape on the pitcher from an old label.
