Large Victorian Signal Cannon on Ornamental Field-Style CarriageA substantial bronze and brass signal cannon mounted on an ornate metal field-style carriage, the barrel with turned profiles and raised decorative bands, fitted with a clearly defined touch hole at the reinforce for ignition. All pieces on this signal cannon show patina consistent with bronze or brass construction. The cannon is supported on a robust carriage with large spoked wheels and an elegant trailing frame with baluster-turned cross members, combining functional strength with decorative refinement.Measuring approximately 14.5 inches in overall length, this example represents a larger and more elaborate form of signal cannon, intended for ceremonial, maritime, or estate use rather than combat. Such cannons were commonly employed for yacht and harbor signaling, time signals, and formal salutes at clubs, private estates, or maritime institutions.Designed to be fired with black powder only, using paper or cork wadding and no projectile. The piece exhibits surface wear and patina consistent with age and use.An impressive and well-proportioned 19th-century signal cannon, notable for its scale, craftsmanship, and decorative presence.Dimensions: 14.5” L x 6.5” W X 6” HPickup & Shipping: This lot may be picked up free of charge in Sacramento, CA.
