The largest of the icons purchased by General and Mrs. McNanrny from the merchant Salman Farid of Herod's Gate in Jerusalem. This depicts Jesus in his manger, with Joseph and Mary flanking him, the Star of Bethlehem, shepherds and sheep and a cow, and above, the Three Kings, and the Annunciation. There is writing in the field, which may be Russian, but is hard to make out. The icon, like the other two, is painted on a board, with a gold painted border. The Virgin is depicted in a pink robe. The icon has been varnished. Size: 15 by 11 by 1 inch. Provenance: Estate of General Joseph McNarney. Processing and shipping in the Continental United States is $45.00 plus 1.5% replacement coat insurance.

Condition

The icon has been varnished. There are several chips missing from the paint, mostly along the border, although there is a chip missing from the Virgin's halo, and a deeper chip from the beam of light that connects the Star of Bethlehem to the border.
