Honore Daumier was a French artist known for his visual commentary on the social and political strifes of 19th-century French people. He learned the fundamentals of art from Alexandre Lenoir and studied at Académie Suisse. In the mid -1820s, Daumier learned lithography from Charles Ramelet and found work with Zéphirin Belliard producing miscellaneous illustrations, advertisements, street scenes, portraits, and caricatures. As his career grew, Daumier's work gained the attention of the French monarchy who frequently charged him for negative commentary and depictions of the King. However this never stopped the artist and he continued publishing cartoons, as well as expanding his work into painting and sculpture, into the 1860s.
