A very fine and handsome pitcher and bowl set in the "Spring" pattern by Wilkinson Royal Staffordshire Pottery about 1880. The pair are beautifully and unusually painted in white, black and a deep lavender, with stripes and flowers. The bowl is the same, but with delicately painted cherry or plum blossoms in the same colors, and of course, white inside the bowl. The marks on the bases are interesting, because the Wilkinson and Royal Staffordshire names are around a rampant lion and crown, which was the mark of the Honourable East India Company, which had ceased to function in 1858, whereas the Wilkinson and Royal Staffordshire merger occurred about 1880. Size: The pitcher is 10 inches tall, and 10 inches across including the handle. The bowl is 5 inches deep and 15 1/2 inches across at the rim. The second set is unmarked but extremely nice cream colored, with a pattern of green and orange cameo ovals on both bowl and pitcher. Size: the pitcher is 11 inches tall and 10 inches wide at the handle, with the bowl being 6 inches deep and 15 1/2 inches wide at the rim. The first set is excellent plus, with a few very tiny marks to the decoration. The second set is excellent.
