Brass balance scale set labeled “Miner’s Improved Gold Scale – Manufactured Expressly for California,” featuring two brass pans suspended by fine link chains, a brass balance arm, and six original square weights. Housed in its original dark brown-painted tin case with gilt eagle motif and lettering on the lid, green-painted interior, and fitted compartments for storage. Condition

Overall good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. Tin case is slightly misshaped. Gilding on the case lid remains legible with minor paint loss and surface scratches. Interior green paint worn in areas. Weld seam at hinge detached but lid remains functional. Scale mechanism complete with original pans, arm, and weights.
