19th century Filipino Moro panabas. The handle on this particular example has rattan wrappings for extra grip. These are most closely associated with the Maranao and Maguindanao Moros of Mindanao Island, Philippines. The panabas was most infamously used for executions and as a formidable battlefield weapon, however, they started life as a foliage clearing tool that could serve the role of an axe or a sickle.
