A silver and iron construction cross with blackened core and beaded silver frame. The obverse displays a central swastika above the date “1939,” while the reverse bears the institution date “1813,” commemorating the decoration’s origins during the Napoleonic Wars. The cross is suspended from its red, white, and black combatant’s ribbon. Awarded for acts of bravery and meritorious service in combat, the Iron Cross 2nd Class was the entry-level grade of Germany’s most recognized military decoration in WWII. It symbolized valor and was often a prerequisite to higher awards such as the Iron Cross 1st Class or Knight’s Cross. Dimensions: 1.75 x 1.75 in., overall length 4.75 in. This lot may be picked up free of charge from our facilities in Sacramento, CA. Processing and shipping within the Continental US $50.00. All FedEx packages are sent with Direct Signature Required and insured at full replacement value for a fee of 1.5% of the purchase price, unless buyer accepts complete liability in writing.
