An exceptionally well-done sampler on wool dated 1876, by Emilie Wahrenberger, probably German or Pennsylvania Dutch, based on the unusual spelling of "Emilie," along with the lack of the letter "J" in several of the alphabets shown. The background fabric is pale lavender, with lettering in red, green, maroon, blue, and white. It is sewn onto a medium blue background, and is in a gilt wood frame. Size: 13 by 18 by 3/4 inches. Provenance: Estate of General Joseph McNarney. Processing and shipping in the Continental United States is $45.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
