A very fine and beautifully carved wooden statue of Jesus as the Good Shepherd, with a lamb draped around his neck, and a shepherd's staff in his right hand . It is well-painted with a red cloak, and blue tunic with ornately painted sash, with Jesus and the lamb in life-like colors. It stands on a square wooden base that has an inscription in Greek, with the date of 1800. The shepherd's crook is an entirely separately attached piece with a metal band just below the hook.
Although the inscription is in Greek, this may have come from the Tyrol, as did several similar pieces we sold late last year.
Size: 65 inches tall and 25 inches wide at the shoulders.
Condition
There are age cracks in the wood, but it is overall excellent and well-painted.
