A framed oil on canvas seascape painting by American artist William DeShazo (1934-2022). The image depicts turbulent surface breaking along a rugged, rocky shoreline. Dark cliffs rise dramatically on the right hand side receding toward a distant headland at center, creating great atmospheric depth. Pale yellow illumination is concentrated near the horizon contrasting with the deep blues, grays, and browns, a characteristic of DeShazo's luminist approach to marine painting. The artist's signature is in the bottom right corner. It is housed in a antiqued metallic-finish frame with a narrow dark inner border.

Dimensions: (painting, sight) 23.5h x 47.5w inches, (frame) 28.75h x 52.75w inches

William DeShazo (1934-2022) was an American landscape and marine painter born in New Mexico. He drew from an early age and worked as a bronc & bull rider throughout his teens before moving to southern California. There he attended California Western University while working aboard a commercial fishing vessel, an experience that helped shape his enduring interest of the sea. Following this he attended the Laguna School of Fine Art and became particularly associated with atmospheric glazing methods. Across his career, he became particularly associated with luminous seascapes which captured realistic effects of light passing through clouds or reflecting off water.
