An exceptionally nice US Model 1840 non-commissioned officer's sword and scabbard dated 1862 by Roby of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, with the scarce full circle stamping of the Roby name. The inspector's marks are F.S.S. The hilt and grip are brass, with double kidney guards. The blade is straight, with a single fuller. The scabbard is black leather with brass mounts, the drag also stamped F.S.S. The leather is broken just above the drag. Size: 41 1/2 inches long overall in the scabbard, with a 32 inch blade.

Excellent plus, with a full break in the leather of the scabbard just above the drag. The blade retains most of its original polish. The guard and other brass are excellent, with a light patina. The leather other than the break is excellent. All the leather and the drag are present.
