A Model 1840 type cavalry saber, as imported from Germany by both sides for use in the American Civil War. The sword and the steel scabbard are completely unmarked, but the grip has the typical cord wrapped core under black leather.
Size: 44 inches long overall, with a 36 1/2 inch blade.
Processing and shipping in the Continental United States is $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
Condition
Overall the saber is in very good condition except for having the outermost bar of the guard broken and missing. There is a single screw missing from the throat of the scabbard. The blade is clean, but appears to have been lightly scoured at some point in the past. There is red rust on the tip of the scabbard drag, although the scabbard overall has a good finish with a nice patina. The grip is very good, but the leather is worn along one small section, exposing the cord underneath.
