US Model 1861 Springfield Rifle with 1862 dated lock. This was the standard issued rifle at the beginning of the Civil War, until it was replaced by the 1863 Springfield which was similar, but simplified for greater economy. This is as standard as-issued Springfield, originally in .58 caliber. This one has been bored out as many were after the War to serve as an inexpensive shotgun. This is full length and complete in every other way.
Size: 56 inches long overall with a 40 inch barrel.
Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $70.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.
Condition
A very nice Model 1861 rifle other than the bored out barrel. The markings on the lock plate are sharp and clear. The marking on the breech have been largely effaced by pitting and cleaning, although the eagle is still partially visible.
