A grouping of three classic personalized porcelain shaving mugs typical of early 20th-century barbershop practice, each bearing the patron’s name in Old English script. The first is inscribed J. W. Burris, with black lettering and gilt flourishes. The second, for G. M. Radovich, features a distinctive hand-painted floral motif with a spider-web and insects surrounding the name, accented in gilt. The third, marked G. J. Carey, displays a clean white ground with black and gilt script. All three mugs were retailed by San Francisco barber-supply houses of the period, as evidenced by underside marks from T. H. Pock & Co. and Walla & Finger Co., both prominent suppliers to the region’s barbers. These mugs reflect the tradition of barbershop personalization, in which regular clients kept their own shaving mug and brush for hygiene and status.Dimensions approx.: Standard sizeThis lot may be picked up free of charge from our facilities in Sacramento, CA.
