Edith Knowlton Robbins was a New York socialite of the "Gilded Age," who was the daughter of Danford Henry Knowlton and Mary B. Jones.Edith was considered a great beauty of her day, and was painted a number of times. She married Allan Appleton Robbins in 1901. He was the supervising engineer of the New York Subway System during one of its most significant periods of growth.
