This is a land warrant for 160 acres of land in Kansas to be granted to certain volunteers in the Mexican-American War of 1846, this particular one was granted to Seaman William Jamison of the schooner USS Petrel, and assigned by him to Susan A. Frances Evans on the First of June, 1860, and signed by President James Buchanan. There are actually two signatures of President Buchanan, one of which is certainly a proxy, but the other, smaller signature appears to be his. The document is in an old wooden frame, and has an American flag at the top, and a paper Presidential seal on the lower left. There is also a thumb-print in ink just below the smaller signature.
Condition: Very good, with some yellowing. The frame is excellent, with what appears to be a recent matte, and it backed by wallpaper.
Size: 23 by 15 inches.
Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $55.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
Condition
Good condition overall.
