A very handsome iron bound oak "Poor Box" or Alms Box complete with lock and key. It is meant to hang on a church wall and has a cross shaped iron plaque on the top with cross slots for coins and possibly bills. The brass lock on the front is stamped Made in England and Second Lever. It also has brass hinges, but the other mounts are all blackened iron. The top has a hasp for an additional padlock.Circa 1900.10
Size: The box itself is 5 1/2 tall by 8 inches, and the base on which it is mounted is 12 tall by 10 inches.
Condition
Excellent condition but the lock and key.do not work, so the hasp was most likely a later addition.
