Along with painting, Tolegian was a musician, and wrote the music for Saroyan's Pulitzer Prize winning play, "Time of Your Life." After serving as a combat medic in WWII, Tolegian became known as an illustrator, and then as a painter, focusing on scenes in California's Central Valley that reflected the reality of life there.This painting is unusual, being a portrait, where Tolegian was best known for his landscapes.
