A bronze incense burner in the form of a wading ibis, standing on lily pads, with a removable section on the bird's back for burning incense. Accompanying the bird is a letter from a Tokyo art dealer identifying the piece as "Bunkwa" period, (1804-1816) sold to Mrs. McNarney in 1964. Size: 14 1/2 by 14 1/2 by 6 inches. The bird's legs have become bent, and one leg is broken off of its base at its joint. The entire piece is heavily coated in old verdigris.
