Japanese Bronze Meiji Period Vase, Bird Chasing Carp Through Water. Signed in Japanese characters on base. Intricately detailed: with the duck’s body, wings, and separately its face and neck protruding from the water. The scene feels alive, and there is an energy present, as the artist embellished the bronze with four feathers lost from the duck in the chase. The fish, on the opposite side of the vase, swims away frantically, wide eyed and with water lines cut around it to demonstrate the speed of the fleeing fish.
Dimensions: 10.5†high. Just over 6†at its widest. Mouth is 3.5â€
