Despite the title, the image displays the historical summer estate located at 555 Blair Avenue in Piedmont. It is housed in a simple, narrow dark-stained wood frame with a flat profile.

Dimensions: (drawing, sight) 25.5h x 31.25w inches, (frame) 27h x 32.75w inches

Oscar Sutro (1874-1935) was a prominent San Francisco attorney and business executive. Born in Victoria, British Columbia, he was brought to San Francisco as a child. He was a partner of the influential San Francisco law firm Pillsbury, Madison, & Sutro and late became general counsel, vice president, and director of the Standard Oil Company, the predecessor of Chevron. Today he is remembered as one of the men who made San Francisco what it is.

Houghton Sawyer (1871-1961) was a prominent San Francisco architect active during the early 20th-century. He was raised under the guardianship of his uncle, Leland Stanford, and a member of Stanford University's first graduating class. He then studied architecture in France before turning to San Francisco. Sawyer's work was particularly favored for elegant residential designs throughout established neighborhoods including Pacific Heights, Presidio Heights, and Nob Hill. His surviving buildings make-up an important part of S.F.'s early 20th-century architectural heritage.
