This model is marked as Balance No. 17 and retains its original instruction label inside the drawer, showing the firm’s address at 59 Nassau St., New York. The scale is housed in a fine hardwood and glass case with two pans and a fitted set of troy ounce brass weights, indicating its use in gold, bullion, or assay work. Troy weights (rather than avoirdupois) were essential in 19th-century precious metal transactions. The brass weight set includes denominations clearly marked 10 oz troy and 5 oz troy, among others.Dimensions: 20"h x 23 × 10 ½ Pickup & Shipping: Free Sacramento pickup.
