An intricately hand carved gourd representing the traditional Peruvian folk art form known as a Mate Burilado. This practice spans back thousands of years and often depicts the traditions, beliefs, and daily practices of communities throughout the Peruvian highlands. The artisans use a carving instrument known as "buril" o "burin" to engrave the dried gourds, requiring extensive training passed down through generations.
