Superb grandfather clock by Austro-Hungarian Master Clockmaker Samuel Kralik, undoubtedly the finest clockmaker of his era in Austria-Hungary. The clock is in an oak case That is handsomely carved with classical pillars on upper and lower levels. The pendulum is quite massive, apparently of black metal with a gilt representation of Leda and the Swan. The face is very interesting, with all of the numbers being separate enamel pieces in white with black Arabic numerals in brass rims. The center of the face is in wood, while the outer rim is black, also with a gilded brass rim. Painted on the black at the top is "Sam. Kralik," and at the bottom is ""In Pesth." Samuel Kralik was born in 1815 and died in 1886. He had workshops in Vienna and Budapest. He was the only Austro-Hungarian to exhibit in the Crystal Palace Exhibition, and was a medal winner in the great Vienna Exhibition of 1872. He was renowned for the excellence and accuracy of his clocks. Size:98 inches tall, 22 1/2 inches wide and 12 inches deep.
