A Hopi sikyatki revival style pot by Gloria Kahe (b. 1951). The pot has a wide body with a gentle inward curve at the mouth. It is decorated around with traditional, fine line Hopi-Tewa motifs in red, orange, and black colors. Signed on the underside, "G. Kahe."
Gloria Kahe was born into the Navajo nation and is a member of the water clan, but later married into the Kahe family, a lineage of Hopi potters. She learned the traditional techniques and motifs of Hopi pottery from her mother-in-law Marcella Kahe, considered one of the most respected masters of clay from the Hopi Reservation. Gloria specializes in traditional hand-coiled and painting styles, but has developed her own designs to decorate the surfaces.
