A whiteware pot by Franklin Peters (20th-century). The pot has short neck and wide body that slightly tapers into the base. It is decorated on all sides with stylized birds, possibly parrots or macaws, which are signature symbolic motifs in Acoma pottery representing spiritual messengers, migration, and trade. Signed on the underside, "Franklin Peters / Huwaka / Acoma, NM / '07" with a rain cloud drawing." Franklin Peters is an Acoma potter that was born into the Sky Clan on the pueblo. There is little information available on his background because he is a younger potter amongst the bunch at around 29-years old. He received his training from some of the most talented artists within his community including: Ella Peters (his mother), Florence Aragon, Rachel Aragon, Phyllis Juanico, Dorothy Torivio, Wilfred Garcia, Frederica Antonio, and Barbara and Joseph Cerno. His work is characterized by the fusion of traditional and contemporary Acoma designs.
