Large Silk embroidered panel depicting the California state seal with the figure of Minerva above a bear and landscape, surmounted by the motto “Eureka,” and flanked by crossed American flags with tassels and ribbon banners. The composition executed in finely worked silk thread with directional stitching and padded elements, including detailed figural and landscape embroidery.
Set against a dark ground and presented with a gilt liner in a molded wood frame.
Likely early 20th century, possibly Japanese export work produced for the American market.
