Scarce Union Civil War Ex-Prisoners of War Association medal, with two bars, for Libby Prison, and Andersonville, the two most infamous Southern Prisoner of War camps. The medal is gilded bronze of very high quality, and is rectangular, with the outer edges made to resemble a wooden stockade. The image in the center is of a Union prisoner being attacked by a guard dog. At the top of the medal is "Andersonville 1864," and at the bottom is "Death Before Dishonor." The medal is on a purple ribbon, and the bottom suspension bar reads, "Libby," while the top bar reads, "Andersonville." The medal is worn from a brooch pin on the reverse of an eagle atop a soldier's pack, with crossed rifles with bayonets behind it. Size: 3 7/8 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.

Condition

The ribbon is faded on the obverse, but bright on the reverse. It is held together by a short pin. The medal is about excellent.
