19th century Malay or Moro fighting sword. It is similar to a Moro pira, or bangkung but may be a closely related more Southern Malay sword like the klewang ("Moros" are Northern ethnic Malays living in the Philippines). The blade is sharp on both the front edge and the "dropped" yelman (ie widened back edge). The handle and sheath are nicely patinaed. The handle is made from a piece of wood that is straight grained at the pommel, but burled at the blade end of the handle, which is typical of Moro work. The scabbard throat (sampir) widens at the end like a Moro kris sheath. This area has nice carving as well.
Dimensions: 23.75" blade, 31" long overall.

Blade has scuffs and a few spots of oxidation / pitting. The burled part of the handle has, of course, a few cracks, but the handle is stable and tight to the blade. Scabbard very fine with patina but no apparent damage.
