A very handsome and original New Guinea Korowai tribesman's bow and arrow, mounted in a large frame. The bow is very substantial, clearly a working bow, with rattan reinforcements at top and bottom. The string or cord is a strip of bamboo. Accompanying the bow is a set of 10 arrows, all of bamboo, none of them fletched, as was the tradition prior to European colonization. All of the points are fire hardened, and several are bound with very fine bamboo bindings. All of the arrows are decorated in various patterns, including rattan wrappings, and some decoration that resembles fine beading. One of the points is hollow. Another point is very long and has a secondary point alongside, probably for fishing. Each seems to have been made with a specific purpose in mind. Size: The frame is 69 by 17 1/2 inches. The bow, which is strung, is 63 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. The arrows vary in length, the longest being 54 inches long while the shortest is 49 inches long. Processing and shipping in the Continental United States please inquire with either CC Transport or Box Brothers.

Condition

Aged, but about excellent. Some of the rattan is very slightly frayed, but generally everything is tight and excellent..
