A very fine antique compass as for surveying, with spirit levels, in an attractive octagonal wooden case, complete with adaptor for mounting to a pole. It is probably French, but appears to be unmarked. There is an inscription inside the case in pencil that is not entirely legible, but partially reads "Capitan.". Size: 6 1/2 by 5 1/2 by 1 1/2 inches. Processing and shipping in the Continental United States is $40.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Generally excellent, and apparently in working condition.
