A terra cotta pitcher purchased by Mrs. McNarny in Tehran, with a letter from the store identifying it as being from the Amlasht area in Northern Iran and circa 700 BCE. This area is associated with artifacts from a culture that thrived there through the period of the Sassanian Empire. The pitcher is identified in the letter as a vase, but has both a handle and a larger lip. It is very sophisticated, well-shaped with a wide pouring lip atop a narrow neck that flows into a handsomely shaped jug. Size: 6 1/2 by 4 inches. Provenance: Estate of General Joseph McNarney. Processing and shipping in the Continental United States is $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Condition is remarkable, the vessel being largely intact and without repairs.
