A 19th-century mechanical scarificator with a handle. Historically, this instrument was used for bloodletting and cupping therapies. The brass box head houses multiple concealed steel blades. When the lever is cocked and released, the blades snap outward through the grated slots to create quick, shallow incisions in the patient's skin.

Condition

Overall good antique condition. The blades do not emerge from the brass box head upon cocking and releasing the trigger. Please see photos.
