19th century Filipino Moro panabas. These are most closely associated with the Maranao and Maguindanao Moros of Mindanao Island, Philippines. The panabas was most infamously used for executions and as a formidable battlefield weapon, however, they started life as a foliage clearing tool that could serve the role of an axe or a sickle. This example has a very long blade. The grip is wrapped with alternating braided jute and brass bands.
Dimensions: 34.5" long overall x 22.5" blade
