Pinkerton was the son of Allan Pinkerton who created Pinkerton National Detective Agency in 1850 which was a precursor for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Robert A. Pinkerton was co-Director of Pinkerton National Detective Agency. The case was presented to Isaiah Wrigley Lees who was San Francisco Captain of Detectives for over 40 years and retired as Chief of Police in 1900. William Pinkerton called Captain Isaiah Lees, "The greatest criminal catcher the west has ever known." The case measures 3.25" long by 1.75" wide and 1" tall.
